How Much Protein Can You Absorb At One Time?

The biggest protein myth is that you can only digest 30 grams of protein at one time. Find out what's wrong with this belief and just how much protein you need. This is a common question. I also get variations such as, how much protein can you digest at one time?

There are two ways to answer this, because there really two questions being asked.

1) How much protein can the digestive system physically absorb into the bloodstream from a meal?

And the MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION...

2) How much protein can you body actually utilize?

The answers...

1) About 95% and higher, unless you have some type of digestive system malfunction.

So if you get convinced by supplement companies to drink a 42g protein shake in 5 minutes, you'll still probably absorb at 38 or more grams of that protein.

Your muscle growth is not limited by the amount of protein you can DIGEST or ABSORB.

Your muscle growth IS LIMITED by the amount of protein that your body can utilize for protein synthesis.

So the answer to #2...

2) A lot less than you think.

You really don't need 40, or 30, or probably even 20g of protein per meal to keep your protein synthesis humming along. See Nutrition Help Expert Brad Pilon's post on "How Much Protein Do We Really Need"

Any protein that your body can't use for growth will be shuttled into a process where it is broken down (de-aminated: meaning the nitrogen is removed from the molecule and it becomes a carbon skeleton) to be used in energy pathways.

Now, there are benefits for eating extra protein (in my opinion) when dieting, mainly that it helps to suppress appetite.

But the bottom line to the question I am asked almost everyday is...

a) Your body can digest and absorb almost all of the protein you eat without problem.

b) Your muscles can only do so much with protein...the muscle growth process is RARELY, if ever limited by the amount of protein we consume. Almost all of us can easily get enough protein for maximum muscle growth without the need for eating 50g of protein 6 times per day. Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, and Gunter Schlerkcamp excluded, of course.

Overall, I'd think twice about the need to slam down a 40-50g protein shake...just think of the children and puppies you'll save by not gassing them out with protein farts.

Real food should cover all your protein needs.

Are You Quitting A Weight Loss Regime Again?

Have you ever taken up a challenge with someone to show that you are able to lose weight, but failed miserably in the end?

If you happened to answer yes to either of the question, most probably losing weight isn't as important to you than how you thought it would.

You see, people always have the wrong mindset even if their intention to lose weight is good. Some people wants to look fabulous, some just want to show that they could. But good intention isn't the key to successful weight loss.

The key to successful weight loss is by admitting that it is a serious problem in your life, and that it may hinder your ability to lead a normal or better life ever again.

Some people think that the first step to lose weight, is to surfing the net and find some great workout and diet plan to follow.

To tell you the truth, those are the least important part of success weight loss.

In order to begin your regime at the right note, first you have to understand that weight problem is a very serious problem. And you have to tell yourself that you have the ability to correct this problem.

I don't care if you are a CEO of some big firm, or a ice-cream parlour girl. In both cases, the situation is equally problematic.

You must be saying :"Yeah, right. How can some one as high achieving as a CEO can have any grave problems?"

I tell you, problem is a state of mind.

If you are able to bring yourself to understand that losing weight is The problem, everything will come naturally.

When you are able to get through the stage of denial, you have cleared the first stage. Now I am sure you have cleared the second stage of self motivation, which is to read up on articles and maybe participate in special interest group discussions to verbalise your goals and mindset.

People often after a motivation talk or reading a motivation book, say that those information are just useless and are not effective to change your life. If you think it that way, then you have missed out step three. Step three by the way, is somewhat like coming out of self denial. Although self denial is about getting out of the gut, zealous living is about living your life with vigour and no regret.

Everytime if someone asked you how's your weight loss regime, instead of faking up a phantom workout session, you are able to list out step by step what you have accomplished for your goal. That is zealous living with no regret.

Maybe you don't ever need to visit another weight loss site ever again.

Numerous studies have shown that a loss of only 10 pounds can help you increase your energy and fight off more illnesses. The following foods have been used in some of these studies and they can help you change your life.

We all know that eating right is not an instant fix for what ails us, but it only takes 3-5 days for your body to start responding to your new eating plans. In as little as 5-7 days you can have a noticeable jump in your energy level and see an increase in your general sense of well being. Eating these 7 foods can really change your life.

Healthy muscles. Eating Fish and Chicken more often than Beef and Pork is a good start. Add up the number of meals that you normally eat and try to eat fish or chicken for at least 65% of these meals. Not only is this low in fat calories, but the fish will provide essential oils that can reduce heart disease.

Fight disease. Citrus fruit, berries, and cantaloupe all provide nutrient that are vital to help fight off disease. Increasing these in your daily meal planning will help keep you healthy. A good rule of thumb is to try to include at least one of these in your breakfast everyday.

Best Way To Lose Weight Fast - Calorie Counting Myth

It's starts off with getting to the point that you are fed up with how you look or feel and the desire to do something about it. One of the most advertised best ways to lose weight fast is the calorie counting method.

The common thought process is that if you are currently taking in 2500 calories a day then all you have to do is cut that to 1500 or 2000 calories a day and you will begin to lose weight. So you start skipping meals. Maybe the first day you decide to skip breakfast and by lunch you are starving and feel miserable but you have made up you mind that you are going to do this and stick with it. The pain and misery works for the first week or maybe two if you can hold out that long because you will begin to lose weight. Maybe you have found the best way to lose weight fast.

What you do not realize is that with just about any diet program you will see rapid results early on due to the loss of water weight. It is the first thing to go and the reason just about any diet works in the beginning.

A couple weeks in you have lost some weight but you probably feel weak and miserable because along with skipping meals you have not provided your body with the adequate fuel to function on a daily basis. You start thinking how long am I going to have to be hungry and miserable. This is the point most people quit.

The other issue most people do not realize when it comes to these types of programs is the fact that your body will adjust to your new calorie intake and begin to adjust the number of calories it burns accordingly. This will result in a weight loss plateau and another point where people quit because they stop realizing any weight.

Calorie counting is the most difficult program to stick stay on.

Fast Weight Loss Diets - 3 to Choose From

Fast weight loss diets are not for the faint of heart. They're not based on balanced eating plans. You shouldn't exert yourself when you're on one because they can put stress on your body. And you should never stay one for more than a week. Most important of all though, BEFORE you launch one of the diets promising fast weight loss, visit your doctor and get medical advice. Here are three of the most popular fast weight loss diets:

The Three Day Diet is the simplest of the three diets. It consists of an exact menu for three days. Each breakfast is one small amount of protein, one starch, and one fruit. On one day you'll have an egg, 1/2 of a banana, a piece of toast, and black coffee.

Lunch is even less. It's a small amount of protein and a starch. For one lunch you're recommended to have 1/2 cup tuna and a piece of toast along with your black coffee. Dinner is a little different. You will have a larger serving of protein, 2 servings of vegetables, a fruit, and a cup of regular vanilla ice cream. I personally think it's also one of the strangest diets.

However, there are more of these diets that also have their quirks. One is the Chicken Soup Diet. This is based on a complex recipe for chicken soup. You get some choices of different breakfasts, and then you eat as much soup as you want the rest of the day. One breakfast for the Chicken Soup Diet might be Total cereal, nonfat milk, and juice. A different one would be yogurt, fruit, and wheat germ. When it comes to diets for fast weight loss, with the exception of breakfast this one has zero variety and is boring.

The Grapefruit Diet is one of the most intricate of the 3 fast weight loss diets. There's a lot to remember, and it's all considered important. For instance, there's a certain amount of grapefruit or other specified juice to eat with each meal. You're warned not to eat more or less than what's suggested. Otherwise, it's said the diet will not work.

Also, you're not allowed to take anything away from the diet. If you don't want to eat two slices of bacon with your breakfast - too bad. They claim you won't burn fat if you don't adhere precisely to the diet, including eating the bacon. Hmmm.

A diet like this is hard to understand.

You're also advised to drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water every day, but only 1 cup of coffee at a meal. Butter can be used as a condiment, or to fry foods. You're only allowed to eat at meal time; no snacking except the beverage at bedtime. You're given two lists: one of foods you can eat and one of foods you cannot eat. Yet, on this "accelerated" weight loss diet you're encouraged to eat until you're full at any meal. Again I say...hmmm.

You're warned not to eat certain foods at the same time they claim the more you eat (of the "allowed" foods), the more you fat you burn. Breakfast on this diet is grapefruit, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon slices. That's the basic guideline however; they also indicate you can eat as much eggs and bacon as you wish. Is this also confusing to you?

Lunch is grapefruit, salad, and meat. Dinner is grapefruit, meat, and a salad or vegetable. You get a bedtime snack of tomato juice or nonfat milk. Yippee! Let's face it - you'll be hungry regardless which of the diets you try. They're extremely restrictive with very, very little food variety. Speaking for myself, that usually means I'll not only be miserable but my chances of sticking to it - even for a short time - are pretty slim. (Pun intended)

And doing fast weight loss diets like this can get complicated. If you do participate in one, please be careful. They may not be safe. And definitely consult with your doctor.

Tummy Fat! Is It Important?

Tummy fat. Some of us have it, others don't. Is there anything special about a big belly compared to a large bottom? Well, surprisingly, not all body fat is created equal! According to a study carried out by researchers from MacMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario it seems that gauging your heart attack risk depends on where your fat is, rather that how much fat you have.

These types of findings are not unique to MacMasters. Dr David Heber, Ph.D., from UCLAs Centre for Human Nutrition reports that distribution of body fat is a more important predictor of heart attack risk than the traditional measurement of Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a measurement based on the ratio between your height and weight.

It appears that a more accurate predictor of the impact body fat has on your health, is your overall body shape. You may be more like an apple or a pear, or evenly shaped top and bottom. You may have large thighs, fat hips and a huge bum and have a lower heart attack risk than someone with skinny legs and a big belly.

A more accurate and telling predictor of heart attack risk, is the waist-to-hip ratio.

What is your waist-to-hip ratio?

Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. For example, if your hips measurement is 40 inches and your waist is 34 inches your hip-to-waist ratio is 0.85. If you are a man, that's great, if you are a woman, that's OK (but you are right on the limit of healthy).

- A man's ratio should not be over 0.90

- A woman's ratio should not be over 0.85

Dont fight nature

If you were born an apple you will stay an apple and if you were born a pear you will continue to be appear. Accepting your natural body shape is the first step in losing weight. In a study led by Glasgow, Scotland, psychologist Dorothy Hefferman, Ph.D., researchers concluded that women whose actual body shape differs from their desired one may find losing weight frustrating and have more trouble sticking to a weight-loss program as a result.

If this sounds like you, accept your overall shape as nature intended, but pay attention to reducing fat around your middle and tummy areas. Circumference is much more important to your health than how you look in relation to your bust and bottom.

Fiber - Are You Getting Yours?

Fiber foods are not only healthy, they are delicious. If fiber is new to your eating habits, you are about to discover some new foods, and youll get your fiber at the same time.

Health Benefits

Although experts agree that fiber in all its forms promotes digetive health and helps to prevent irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. Harvard University found that surprisingly, the incidence of colon cancer did not seem to be affected by the amount of fiber eaten. However, the type of fiber, made a difference. Whole grain (like brown rice, oats, etc.) not only contain fiber but, more importantly, nutrients like anti-oxidants are likely the cancer-fighters. Folic acid and mulitvitamins, found in orange juice and leafy greens, can also reduce the risk of colon cancer by up to 75 percent.

Increasing Fiber Decreases Calories

Did you know that increasing the fiber in your diet actually reduces the number of calories your body absorbs from food? Eating moderate amounts of fruits and vegetables makes a significant difference. In low fat diets, 96 percent of calories consumed were absorbed, compared with 91 percent with high fiber eating. Sounds like a small difference? Five percent can add up meal after meal, day after day.

Other Weight Loss Benefits of Fiber

High fiber foods also tend to lower levels of insulin, the hormone that stimulates appetite and can lead to the urge to binge. In addition, improving your digestive processes wtith fiber can help rasie your metabolism, energize you and burn more calories in all of your daily activities.

Fiber Choices

So, how do you incorporate more fiber into your diet? There are many delicious and nutrious high fiber foods to choose from, including:

Simple Weight Loss Tips - Use More Olive Oil

One of the easiest weight loss tips is sitting right in your own kitchen. I'm talking about olive oil. Perhaps you have heard of the Mediterranean Diet that has been around for some time now. It has been a fairly popular diet plan, but one of the main emphasis in this diet is the use of olive oil.

Olive oil is really the perfect oil to use in preparing and eating with foods. It contains unrefined monounsaturated fats. Studies have shown that this type of oil acts to increase certain chemicals in the body called uncoupling proteins. Why is that important? Because these chemicals tell our body to burn off extra calories instead of storing them for later.

Other benefits of olive oil include:

-Increasing the good HDL cholesterol levels

-Increasing healthy blood lipid levels

-Increasing fat burning

-Increased anti-inflammatory characteristics

How to increase your use of olive oil

One of the biggest ways of incorporating more olive oil into your diet is to replace all of your other cooking oils with it. Toss out those vegetable and corn oils that you use for frying foods. Use olive oil instead. You can also use it as a substitute for high carb salad dressings on your lunchtime salad. Dressings such as ranch are full of carbs and calories.

You can also find some excellent oil and vinegar dressings in your supermarket. Be sure to look at the labels and see that they are using olive oil. You'd be surprised at what you will find when you start searching.

Olive oil has been around since Biblical times. There is a great reason why this is so; because it is good for you! So, throw out those other oils and begin experiencing the healthy benefits of all natural olive oil.

The Key To Weight Loss

Last year I started working with 2 online clients, JM & GB, both over 350 pounds. Each needed my help badly. But it was quickly apparent which guy would succeed and which would fail.

And there was nothing I could do to help the failure.

Can you pick the success story?

JM filled out his feedback form immediately.

I had to ask GB twice to send his back.

JM started providing daily feedback on his workouts and nutrition, just as I asked. And he continued to fill in his fitday.com eating plan everyday for the last month.

The last time I heard from GB was 7 days after we started emailing...and he still had not started the workout plan yet.

It's not surprising that JM lost 7 pounds in one month, and GB, well, who knows how much more weight he gained last month? I don't hear from him anymore...

As frustrating as GB's failure was, JM's success highlights the importance of one often forgotten aspect of a successful program.

Accountability.

Research from Stanford University has shown that being accountable to a health professional increases the success rate in a fat loss program.

And I see this all the time with clients and magazine readers that contact me after reading my articles in Men's Health and Women's Health magazines. I encourage people to keep me up to date on the progress. And who succeeds? The people I hear from on a consistent basis.

The people I don't hear from? Well, they come back a couple months later and tell me how they fell off the wagon, stopped working out, started eating poorly, etc. Why does this happen? Because they are not accountable to anyone. They set their standards too low.

So I know that if I don't hear form u, then most oftentimes you are in fat loss trouble.

Now in a perfect world, we'd all have an expert trainer to report to in person. If you can't do that, you can at least get strength and interval workouts done and report back to me. Heck, you can even do what the good folks at this website have done and start posting your workouts for me to review.

And then there is the next best thing. Get a workout partner, or group of friends and have them hold you accountable - commit to them that you will train and eat according to your goals.

Why not take time each week get togethers to connect with a family member or friend that has the same goals...and you can be accountable to each other.

You don't have to go it alone,

CB

A Weight Loss Success Formula: 12 Quick Tips

Follow these twelve simple tips to kickstart (or reinvigorate) your weight loss program.

1. Write down your weight loss goals. Make sure each goal is realistic, and that you have included a time line. Break down larger long-term goals into monthly or weekly goals so you can stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Its important to commit these goals to paper, so write them down and display your goals where you will see them each day.

2. Each time you reach a goal, reward yourself with a treat. For best results, this treat shouldnt be any kind of food. Reward your new healthy lifestyle with a 30-minute massage, a new exercise video anything that celebrates you and your success without sabotaging it.

3. Drink lots of water. Stay hydrated by drinking -ounce of pure (bottled or filtered) water for every pound of body weight. That means, if you weigh 150 pounds, you need to be drinking 75 ounces of water each day or between 9 and 10 8-ounce glasses.

Drink a glass of water immediately upon waking. And, throughout the day, everytime you feel your energy levels start to dip, drink another glass. Pure bottled or filtered water can really give your mood a boost.

4. Eat a nutritious breakfast. Start your day off right with a nutritious meal, and include some form of protein. For maximum energy and concentration throughout the day, include complex carbohydrates, such as natural whole-grain cereal or bread, as well as a low-fat protein, such as skim milk, cottage cheese, or low-fat yogurt.

5. Get in the habit of exercising every day. Your daily exercise regimen doesnt have to be strenuous. It just needs to be consistent. And there are lots of ways to avoid boredom and to get excited by your daily exercise routine. Try walking or jogging outside instead of on the treadmill. Or listen to a motivational book-on-tape or mp3 as you work out.

6. Eat for health. Think about food in terms of bang for your buck. Opt for nutrition-dense foods.

7. Eat for energy. Whenever you overeat, you rob your body of energy. Think of food as fuel. Keep an energy journal in which you log the way your body and mind respond to different food choices.

8. Help your mind and spirit to accept and welcome your new body image with behavior modification techniques. A subliminal or non-subliminal audiotape or CD, for example, can help you envision yourself as a fit, lean, healthy person who loves to exercise.

9. Subscribe to a healthy-living or fitness magazine. These magazines feature low-calorie, nutrient-rich recipes as well as inspiring weight-loss success stories.

10. Stop eating after dinner.

11. Join a support group. This can be a group of family members or neighbors all committed to improving their health - or a simple online weight loss community. Talking about our daily challenges and victories is highly motivating.

12. Track and record your weight loss efforts, in detail. You can do this on a hand-written chart, a simple computer spreadsheet, or in a journal or computer program designed for this purpose. Track your food intake, water intake, and exercise for the day. And make sure to weigh-in at the same time each week, so that you can track your weight loss results, too.

How To Lose 10 Pounds Fast - 8 Ways To Slash Body Fat

  • Eat At Least 6 Mini Meals a Day

Frequent meals tame the beast of hunger. Each mini meal should consist of a mix of lean protein and fiber rich complex carbohydrates! The key - controlling hunger shrinks your gut.

  • Embrace Fat

Making the choice to buy and eat low fat foods is recommended. Best still, fat is filling and adds flavor to your meals, so it helps you avoid feeling deprived.

But you can't eat more than you normally would as fat free foods can pack on the pounds.

Let's face it - if you eat too much of the low calorie meals in a day, you will still gain weight.

  • Cheat a Little

Repetitive meals can torpedo your diet - so cheat a little if you need to on the weekend.

The occasional slice of pizza or a bowl of ice cream is good for your diet. It just breaks the boredom of the meals, and adds much needed variety and motivation. But make sure the next day, you get back to the normal routine of eating sensibly.

  • Don't Slack Off

Even if you don't feel like working out, tell yourself you'll do at least 10 minutes.

When those minutes are up, your endorphines will be pumping and it'll be easier to continue.

  • Strength Training

Performing multi muscle movements at high intensities, and using a variety of repetition ranges stimulates maximum growth.

    Why?

Because, those lifts involves larger muscle masses. Hence bigger moves like the squat release more of the key hormones that increase strength and muscle -- and slash body fat.

  • Interval Training

This is an exercise that consists of periods of short hard exercise followed by short periods of recovery - which works better for fat loss.

It is far more effective than a diet of steady state cardio and it gets more results in less time.

  • Workout With A Pal or Two

This is a great way to stay motivated but make sure the focus is on the workout, not on chatting about last weekend.

So partner up with someone to get help and get their success to rub off on you.

  • Not doing too much, getting enough rest and sleep

  • There you have it --the key here is to get your nutrition in order, then focus your workouts on brief, intense strength and interval training workouts that increase your metabolism for the next 24 hours. This is how to lose 10 pounds fast, and keep it off for good.

The Great 8 Eating Tips for Fast Weight Loss @ Body Perfect Fitness

Low Carb, Low Fat, More protein, Eat all the fat you want..... These are the many things we hear as we are bombarded with the latest and NOT always the greatest diet and eating tips when trying to find the Silver Bullet for permanent weight loss.

Well I thought that we would talk about common sense proven tips that will ensure that along with a solid fitness program, will help support your fitness and health goals for life.

    Eating Tip 1

Eat Slow- If you read about the French Paradox, which discusses why the French eat a lot of fatty foods, but are a leaner society than that of the United States. They take their meals very seriously and it is one of the most important times of the day. You will get multiple benefits from this tip. Eating Slow will help your body absorb the food at the right level allowing you to fill up much quicker as it will not provide a tendency for you to OVEREAT!!! The other awesome benefit is that you can spend more time with your family so that you can share the important things in life with each other!!!

    Eating Tip 2

Eat 5-6 times per day. Do not allow your blood sugar levels to drop, in between meals. By eating more often and eating the right types of foods that are on the low end of the glycemic index, you can keep your blood sugar levels more even throughout the day, and ensure that you are not getting those mid-afternoon yawns and also help keep the excess weight off. Remember that when you spike your blood sugar by eating simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, this will potentially cause your body to store fat!!!

    Eating Tip 3

Eat Your Breakfast... I was bad at this many years ago, but I learned to fuel up early in the day. Eating a good solid breakfast to start your day helps supply you with the fuel you need to get started, especially if you are incorporating a early morning fitness program in to your day. You need the fuel to get your engine going in the morning. Do not starve your body early, because you may have the tendency to binge eat later, because your body gets into the craving mode. Feed your body early!!

    Eating Tip 4

Slow down as the sun goes down. What do I mean by this? Well just as important as it is to eat a great breakfast to start the day, it is also as equally important to reduce your food consumption as the day goes on. So plan to eat a good solid breakfast, a good lunch, and reduce your meal portions at dinner time. Remember as you get closer to bedtime your body starts to wind down and you will not have the same opportunity at night to burn those consumed meal calories as you did earlier in the day. So eat more early and back down as you reach sun down.

    Eating Tip 5

Give yourself 3 hours!!! Yes 3 hours before going to bed. Do not consume anymore calories. As I mentioned before, your body starts to slow down as the day goes on and gets ready for sleep. You do not want to consume a lot of calories right before you go to bed, because you will end of potentially storing those calories as FAT!!!

Your body sometimes give you a false sense of being hungry as you bedtime nears. You get those 9pm cravings... And a lot of people end up hitting the Refrigerator and over-consuming right before bed time... Not good for managing your weight and body fat %. If you just can't resist the munchies, then what I do is eat a few high good fat nuts. Like unsalted Almonds skin-on (good for fiber) or a couple spoonfuls of no sugar added all natural peanut butter. Eating a good quality fat food will satisfy your craving and will keep you from binging on something with lots of bad carbohydrates or simple sugars, like ice cream, cake or cookies.

    Eating Tip 6

Stay focused on eating green in every meal. Always incorporate a good high quality low glycemic index dark green vegetable with each meal. I suggest things like spinach or romaine lettuce in your lunch time salads. Eating broccoli, asparagus, or steamed spinach as your vegetable at dinner time. All of these dark green vegetables supply your body with great vitamins and nutrients as well as being great sources of fiber and are naturally low on the glycemic index scale and will keep your blood sugar levels from spiking after eating. So think Dark green at meal time and challenge yourself to keep it as part of each and every eating event.

    Eating Tip 7

Blend your foods.. Blending your foods means making sure that if you are eating a food item that does contain carbohydrates make sure that you incorporate a good low fat protein along with it. Eating a low carb tortilla wrap where the first ingredient is whole wheat flour that is unrefined. Add lean chicken breast as part of your filling in the wrap, maybe with some thinly shredded romaine lettuce and other veggies.

    Eating Tip 8

Use splenda as your sweetener of choice, when looking for a simple sugar replacement. I have tried many sugar subs over the years an no other product has the taste of sugar like splenda does. Not equal and surely not sweet and low. Splenda is outstanding for sprinkling on low glycemic fresh fruit like blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, and I also use it to sweeten my drink of choice. Caffeine Free Green Tea that I infuse with cinnamon stick and whole cloves. What a refreshing cold beverage that keeps the caffeine out of your diet, provides you a great antioxidant and does not spike your blood sugar levels by using the no calorie sweetner in splenda.

So I hope you enjoy my GREAT 8!!!

These eating tips will help keep you on the right track, when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.. All of these tips are the tools that I live by every day....

Well, the holidays are over and the New Year is here! And while there might have been much to celebrate about, if you are like hundreds of thousands of other Americans around the country, did you know you have gained an average of 7 post holiday pounds thanks to all of that fun?

Yes, we all know it's true! A little extra stuffing is common just after the holidays and I'm not talking about the kind you get with a Turkey dinner.. Let's get an early jump on our collective New Year's resolutions and see how we can't shed that extra weight quicker than we put it on! Ready? Great - read on...

The very FIRST thing you need to do is move that body! I don't care if it's your favorite workout DVD, taking a nice long walk around the neighborhood in the morning or finally redeeming all of those gift certificates to your local gym that have been collecting dust. You NEED to workout, plain and simple. Not only does regular exercise help your body process and burn stored fat and calories, it is good for your cardiovascular health and mental acuity as well.

The second thing you need to do is make a plan. Write it down! And start to visualize yourself being thin, fitting into that dress from two summers ago, or just picturing yourself on the beach come summer. Hey, one of the big SECRET techniques lots of these high priced trainers and gurus teach is called "future pacing." Imagine what your life is going to look like when you hit your target weight, feel it, immerse yourself in the visual experience of looking great, and you will get there FAR more quickly.

Lastly, and this is often the sticking point for many...pick a diet plan and stick to it! Do not spend untold hours, weeks or even months searching for the PERFECT plan. You need to simply go out and do it. There are many roads that lead to wellness and a fantastic, fit physique - you simply need to incorporate one that makes sense for you and make it happen. Wasting precious time "researching" the newest fad is simply a waste of time and a common stall tactic that most people employ to stay fat and out of shape! I know it was for me..

Stop! Are you sick and tired of being overweight, unhappy and out of shape? I was!

Read on to discover how to lose weight fast and how simply knowing the truth about your diet will have you quickly and easily looking and feeling your best. Do not let them lie to you for ONE more day...Life is short. What are you waiting for?

Weight Loss - The Single Best Holistic Tip

Wouldnt you like to learn how to loose weight and maintain your ideal weight for the rest of your life without effort?

My single best tip to you is to stop looking for the perfect diet now and look at your life. This is a true holistic approach to weight loss.

After all, what we consider today as nutrition is really just a secondary source of energy. Lets address what all those perfect diet dont talk about, a concept called Primary Food.

Think about it for a moment.

Remember a time when you were passionately in love. Your life took another dimension. Everything was exciting. You forgot about food and were high on love and life.

Do you remember a time you were intensely involved in a project? You felt stimulated and excited. Time stopped and you forgot to eat.

    What about children?

They live on primary food. They play outside and dont want to come diner. They dont want to go to bed at night and they get up excited in the morning. They dont want to miss anything. They are high on life, not on food. They are fed by excitement, play, and adventure.

While studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Ive learned that primary foods dont come on a plate but feed us as much. Play, fun, romance, intimacy, touch, love, adventure, achievement, to name just a few, are primordial source of nourishment. They feed our soul.

Here are 4 questions that will determine how balanced and fulfilling are your primary foods.

    1. Are your relationships healthy and nourishing?
    2. Are you creating a work that you love and are excited about?
    3. Are you enjoying regular physical activity?
    4. Do you have a spiritual practice that fills you, quiets your mind, relaxes your body and/or brings you a sense of peace?

Are your primary foods balanced and fulfilling?

If so, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary.

If not, you will tend to use secondary food as a way to compensate your lack of primary food. You will stuff yourself with secondary foods while you are truly starving for primary food.

Weight gain is one of the consequences.

I encourage you to stop looking for the perfect diet and start looking at your relationships, your work, your physical activity, and your spirituality. Secondary food, the food you eat, is certainly critical for health and happiness. However, it is these four sources of primary food that feed your soul, nourish you and will make your life passionate.

You wont even need to think about weight loss anymore!

Lose 10 Pounds In A Week Safely - Is It Possible?

Is it really possible to lose 10 pounds in a week safely? The fact is most diets where quick weight loss is achievable are also a huge risk to your health - but this isn't always the case.

Despite being unsafe most fast weight loss diets also fail to bring with them lasting results. This is because they are based around eliminating food groups and taking a massive drop in your calorie intake.

With diets based around these methods your body soon senses that it is being starved. This causes your body to slow down your metabolism which slows down your weight loss. It will also start to store fat and instead burn muscle which isn't what you want.

The removal of certain food types also means that you are missing out on vital benefits which they provide. All food groups provide one benefit or another so by not eating them you are missing out. One or two diets can help you to achieve fast loss of weight both safely and continuously. One is based around the method of using calorie shifting.

Calorie shifting works because it doesn't eliminate any food types from your diet. Instead it switches and rotates the types of food you eat on a daily basis. This fools your body into believing you aren't on a diet and also ensures your body isn't missing out on any of the benefits provided by each food group.

I'm not going to claim you will lose 10 pounds in a week with this diet ( although you could ) but you will lose it quickly and safely. More important to some is that the diet also works continuously so if after your first cycle you still which to lose more weight you simply start over again.

Now you know that quick weight loss is possible to do safely it is now simply a matter of getting of your backside and making it happen. You can find out more about the calorie shifting diet below.

5 of the Best Weight Loss Tips for Long-Term Success

If you've decided that you need to lose weight, it is important to devise a plan that you will follow long-term. Long-term weight loss should not be a plan that you follow a few months, then you go back to eating the same way that got you overweight in the first place! It is important to your long-term success that you make permanent lifestyle changes in both your diet and daily exercise. Here are 5 of the best weight loss tips to help you achieve your goals:

    1. Always eat breakfast.

How many times did your hear your mother say this is the most important meal of the day? She was right! By ensuring that you have a balanced and nutritious breakfast each morning you are helping to give your metabolism a kick start. Not only will you no longer be tempted by sugary snacks half way through the morning but the calories you consume will burn off a lot faster.

    2. Don't skip meals.

As long as you eat your meals at regular intervals then your metabolism will improve even more. On top of that, you won't be as tempted to eat unhealthy snacks because you are hungry. Many health professionals now recommend eating 5-6 smaller meals a day. Eating every couple of hours will keep you from ever feeling hungry, will aid your digestion, and will keep your metabolism working at top speed.

    3. Take your time.

Actually sit down for your meals, take your time, and savor each mouthful. Unlike our ancestors, most people in the Western world are eating far too much and eating it far too quickly. By slowing down the rate at which you eat your food you will give your body time to signal you that it is full. You will find that this often happens with smaller portions if you take the time to eat slowly and chew thoroughly.

    4. Take control of your portion sizes.

It is important that with any meal the amount of food on your plate should be no larger than your two fists. So if you go out to a restaurant for a meal either order smaller portions, if possible, or take half your food home for another meal. Restaurants are notorious for serving portion sizes that are much too large for the average adult!

    5. Get Active.

A great way of getting active without having to go to the gym each day is just by changing your daily routine. For example, if you go to work on the bus then get off a couple of stops earlier and walk the rest of the way. If you work in an office that has elevators, then why not use the stairs a few times a day? It is fairly simple to add more walking to your life, and the benefits are many.

These ideas are very simple, but they are some of the best weight loss tips you'll find. And you'll find them even easier to implement!

An effective weight loss program does not have to mean deprivation or back-breaking exercise routines. To discover simple strategies for lasting weight loss and a free book of delicious recipes, be sure to check out my Painless Weight Loss Tips blog at: http://www.painless-weight-loss.com/

    Simple Weight Loss

Once a week, indulge in a high-calorie-tasting, but low-calorie, treat. This should help keep you from feeling deprived and binging on higher-calorie foods.

Treat high-calorie foods as jewels in the crown. Make a spoonful of ice cream the jewel and a bowl of fruit the crown. Cut down on the chips by pairing each bite with lots of chunky, filling fresh salsa

After breakfast, make water your primary drink. At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda.

Carry a palm-size notebook everywhere you go for one week. Write down every single morsel that enters your lips -- even water. Studies have found that people who maintain food diaries wind up eating about 15 percent less food than those who don't.

Eat five or six small meals or snacks a day instead of three large meals. A 1999 South African study found that when men ate parts of their morning meal at intervals over five hours, they consumed almost 30 percent fewer calories at lunch than when they ate a single breakfast. Other studies show that even if you eat the same number of calories distributed this way, your body releases less insulin, which keeps blood sugar steady and helps control hunger.

Downsize your dinner plates. Studies find that the less food put in front of you, the less food you'll eat. Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you'll eat.

If you follow these simple weight loss tips you should start to lose weight.

Information on Weight Loss, Exercise, and You

Feel like you are penned up? Human beings are built for only two basic things: reproduction and fighting. Well, now that we have the basics of biology out of the way, what in the world does that have to do with weight loss? Simple. We were supposed to be using our bodies to work hard, gather food, run like the wind, and then settle down for a rest before doing it all over again. In todays' world, we start being sedentary at the breakfast table, run to the car just to put the carseat in, migrate slowly to the office chair, and slump home and fall in bed whining about being exhausted.

Today, exercise must be sought out, unlike a mere generation ago when the average American man was a blue collar worker who put in long strenuous hours in a mill or on a farm.

Health experts today admit that the obesity crisis (and yes it is a crisis) in America is the result of several factors. Not only do we eat too much, but we eat "fast" prepared foods instead of cooking from scratch. Combine that with a lack of exercise and there you have it..one fat generation raising the next fatter generation. So how do we change things? Unfortunately, one or two laps around the school running track will not counteract the three donuts a day at work. Exercise, if increased on a daily basis, combined with no diet changes may help with fast weight loss. This, however, is not sustainable.

What has to happen to affect permanent change is a weight loss plan that evolves into a lifestyle plan. These are some recommendations for your plan to help you sustain an exercise program.

    1. Get quality sleep.

Surprise! You didn't expect that to be first on the list! Make sure that you get adequate sleep, meaning go to bed at a reasonable hour and get up at a reasonable hour. Over sleeping and under sleeping disrupt natural biorhythms. Good sleep habits are conducive to exercise, experts point out. If you feel worn out during the day due to lack of sleep, you are less likely to get much physical activity during the day. In addition, there is evidence that people who are tired tend to eat more, using food as a substance for the rest they need.

    2. Walk the walk.

This is probably the easiest exercise program of all. In fact, it may be all you ever have to do, according to some professional advice of some health experts. It is a great way to start if you are morbidly obese, but keep in mind to really lose weight you have to sweat! Just strolling down the sidewalk really won't help much. Gradually build up to at least 30 minutes of brisk walking five times a week. Brisk walks themselves have health and psychological benefits that are well worth the while.

    3. Or...Walk the treadmill.

When the weather is bad, you might not feel like going outdoors. Great excuse not to exercise, right? But if you have a treadmill with a TV in front of it, you can catch up on your favorite shows while you are doing your daily good turn for your weight-maintenance plan. Most of us watch television anyway, and indoor exercise equipment enables anyone to turn a sedentary activity into a healthy activity.

    4. Seize the time.

Excuses aside, lack of time is certainly a limiting factor in most lifestyles. That is why health experts suggest a basic guideline for incorporating exercise into your schedule. Get as much exercise as you can that feels good without letting it interfere with your work or family life. If you need to, remind yourself that you are preventing many health problems when you prevent weight gain; and keeping your health is a gift to your family as well as yourself.

Weight Loss Through 'Conscious Eating' Not Dieting

Are you at the point where you are tired of living a life with food as your enemy?

Is life a constant struggle as you try to shed or keep off those extra pounds?

Have you ever wondered where all your will power went?

The truth about weight loss motivation does not lie with will power; it lies with the skills we lost when we started dieting. Our problem lies not with food but with our own attitude to it. When following a diet plan or eating regime you not only label food as 'good' or 'bad' but you also give up two very important skills...

    1. The Skill of Conscious Eating
    2. The Skill of Personal Choice

By listening to what foods others tell you are good for you, personal power of choice is given away. By switching off your mind to your body you close down your instinctive ability to eat exactly what your body requires. Your focus becomes the food you believe you shouldn't have and the outer appearance of your body. In other words you lose the skill of inner reflection, an ability to look internally to find peace and happiness rather than projecting it on external factors and expectations.

Conscious Eating is therefore not just about food, it encompass a wide variety of skills based around reflection on...

    * Your thoughts about food
    * Your thoughts about yourself
    * The effect different foods have on your body
    * How you feel when you are eating and have eaten
    * How you use food as a fuel not a comforter
    * How you love yourself

These are the skills you have lost, the many and varied habits of 'Conscious Eating'. The first step in regaining them is to shed your fear of food and learn to love it again. It is fear that holds you trapped in old and unhelpful habits with food. After all, if they were useful would you be struggling in a battle with food and weight after all this time? Wouldn't you have lost the weight and kept it off easily?

Many of the Conscious Eating skills are those used by people who have never had a weight or size issue and so have never dieted. They are a rare breed that believe they are beautiful just as they are. They have no problem accepting the shape of the body they genetically inherited from their parents. They have no problem ignoring what others and society portray as the 'perfect' body shape. They sometimes have a wardrobe of clothes in 2 different sizes because they accept their weight fluctuation between seasons. They may even have no problem accepting a change in shape and size, as they get older. These are the people you can learn a great deal from about Conscious Eating. They hold many of the keys of how you regain control and power over the food you eat, and how to eat to live rather than live to eat.

2 Tricks To Lose 5 Pounds Fast

If you want to lose 5 pounds fast then you must learn the 2 simple tricks talked about in this article, they will help you accelerate your weight loss. Just about everybody wants to lose weight, there are a plethora of diets out there designed to help you lose fat quicker than ever.

The truth is though, most of them are simply a quick fix - you'll tend to lose a massive amount of weight at the beginning and then the weight loss reaches a plateau and comes to a grinding halt. So you don't want only to lose 5 pounds fast, you want to make sure those pounds stay off - permanently.

Before I touch on the 2 most important aspects of any weight loss program I want to emphasize how important it is that you do this for yourself, nobody else. You must have laser like focus if you are to achieve your goals. Get committed, take action and things start to happen!

    Here's the first trick:

    1. Begin a regular exercise program.

Even adhering to the best diet (which you can read about here at the end of this article) will not get you the body you've always dreamed of.

You MUST compliment great nutrition with regular exercise in order to see the most optimal results. A high quality exercise program will tone and define your body ready for when the fat comes off, so you can look your very best at the beach!

I thoroughly recommend utilizing high intensity interval training. This type of cardio has been shown to increase the body's metabolism significantly, which results in fat being burnt throughout the day, even hours after your workout.

Weight training is also a great tool to help maximize your metabolism and burn more fat. Lean muscle mass has been shown to burn calories throughout the day even at rest - in fact some studies suggest as many as 50 calories are burnt each day per pound of lean muscle! Knowing that should make anyone want to pump iron!

I must just mention, whilst on the subject of weight training and muscle mass - muscle weighs more than fat so don't focus on the scales! I know you want to lose 5 pounds fast but let's focus on losing 5 pounds of fat rather than 5 pounds of muscle/fat/water or any combination of those!

    2. Change your nutrition and stick to it!

This trick is probably the most important step in helping your body lose 5 pounds fast. It is time to throw away your old diets that focussed on consuming a ridiculously low amount of calories each day and begin eating a balanced healthy diet consistently.

Look to eat smaller portions more regularly, this helps keep your metabolism high throughout the day and also staves off the murderous appetite associated with low calories diets that so often lead to over-indulgence. You don not have to give up all your favourite foods!

Just be sure to eat them at the correct times, for example, during and right after training is the best time to consume candy bars - your body will use the sugar to replenish energy stores and it will unlikely be stored as fat.

If you want to lose 5 pounds fast and keep it off you really must incorporate both of these keys into your lifestyle. Earlier I talked about the best diet routine available right now, you can check that out by clicking the following link: Lose 5 Pounds Fast. There are no short-cuts, despite what some weight loss marketers may tell you. It is a hard road but if you have the commitment you WILL achieve all of your weight loss goals.

If you want more 'inside' knowledge into how to transform your body visit Secrets To Fat Loss which uncovers the little known secrets to rapid and permanent fat loss. With help and motivation you too can lose 5 pounds fast and burn more fat!

    Benefits of Exercise

The benefits of exercise go far beyond losing weight or building an attractive body. We often hear that we are supposed to exercise, but unfortunately many people tend dismiss the importance and value of this simple act, as just something doctors or health care providers routinely say to keep us fit. There isn't a true understanding that health or lack of is influenced greatly by the level of physical activity you get each day.

It is one of the most powerful sources of holistic health care available to us and it doesn't have to cost us anything or require a trip to the doctor. Exercise is one of the easiest and most natural ways to keep your body and mind healthy.

The benefits of exercise do not only apply to those trying to prevent disease or health conditions, but it is also of great value to those already living with a disease or health issue. It can be a great tool to manage and relieve symptoms, deal with stress more effectively, boost the immune system and improve the mood.

Whether your looking to the holistic and alternative health approach or traditional medicine, exercise is an essential component of any health and wellness plan, because it's extremely effective.

It promotes healing, makes the body stronger and builds stamina to resist harmful viruses, toxins and bacteria we come in contact with every day. You can't find a better stress reliever than physical exercise.

The more physical activity you get, the more oxygen that your circulate through your body. Oxygen is critical for your muscles to work right, your brain to function properly and to clean out toxins from your blood. Exercise gets your blood pumping faster and keeps your bodies systems moving so that toxins don't build up.

This is important because many diseases are the result of a clogging up or build up of a particular substances or toxins. For example, a contributing factor to heart disease is the build of plaque on the arteries and arthritis can be cause by a build up of calcium. These types of occurrences can be greatly reduced with regular physical activity.

Exercise also assists in keeping the colon functioning properly, getting a good nights sleep, promotes healthy digestion, reduces depression, anxiety, irritability and mood swings .

Now even many people who realize the importance of exercise have a hard time incorporating it into their life. Some people don't have the time, motivation, or energy, while others think it's too much work or boring.

The problem here is that they are going about it all wrong. In order to stick with an exercise program it must be something you enjoy. If going to the gym every day seems like a chore, then it's not something you will follow through with.

There are many different forms of exercise and the key is to find one that is a good fit for you. There is swimming, yoga, tai chi, walking, jogging, going to the gym, dancing, basketball, tennis, volleyball, treadmills, steppers and even gardening to name a few. These are all excellent types of exercise.

Make your exercise fun and it will be something you look forward to and you'll be able reap the physical and emotional benefits of exercise without much effort at all.
